BaZi (八字), also called the Four Pillars of Destiny, is one of the oldest systems of Chinese astrology. It maps the heavenly stem and earthly branch of your birth year, month, day and hour into four "pillars" that describe your innate energy.

The Day Master — the heavenly stem of your birth day — represents you. Its element (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal or Water) and how the other pillars support or drain it reveal your strengths, blind spots and the cycles of your life.

A complete BaZi chart from this calculator includes all eight characters — the heavenly stems and earthly branches of your four pillars — plus your Day Master, Chinese zodiac animal, the hidden stems in each branch, the Ten Gods relationships, and a Five Elements balance chart showing which elements are strong or missing.

This calculator also computes your real luck pillars (大运, Da Yun) — the ten-year cycles that time your life — using the classical rule: the direction of the cycles follows your gender and the polarity of the year stem, and the starting age is converted from the days between your birth and the nearest solar term (three days equal one year). You see all eight decades with their exact Gregorian year ranges, the pillar you are walking right now, and the coming Liu Nian (流年, annual pillars) — data most free BaZi calculators leave out.

Unlike a Western horoscope, a BaZi chart does not depend on planetary positions or your place of birth — the calendar moment of birth is everything. That is why the calculator converts your birth time through the traditional Chinese solar calendar, using the solar terms (not Lunar New Year) as the boundary between years and months, the same method professional BaZi practitioners use.

Frequently asked questions

What is a BaZi chart?

A BaZi chart (八字, "eight characters") maps your birth year, month, day and hour into four pillars, each made of one heavenly stem and one earthly branch — eight characters in total. Together they describe your elemental makeup, personality tendencies and life cycles in Chinese astrology.

What information do I need for a BaZi chart?

Your birth date and, ideally, your birth hour. The hour determines the Hour Pillar; if you are unsure, you still get an accurate three-pillar reading.

Is the BaZi calculator free?

Yes. The full chart data — four pillars, Day Master, zodiac and elements — is free with no sign-up. Only the in-depth AI interpretation is a paid feature.

What is the Day Master?

The Day Master is the heavenly stem of your birth day. It represents "you" in the chart, and its element is the anchor for the whole reading.

How is BaZi different from the Chinese zodiac?

Your zodiac animal is just one of the eight characters — the earthly branch of the Year Pillar. A full BaZi chart is far more specific: two people born in the same zodiac year can have completely different Day Masters, elements and luck cycles.

Does this BaZi calculator show luck pillars (Da Yun)?

Yes — and they are genuinely computed, not generic. The calculator derives your Da Yun with the classical Yuan Hai Zi Ping method: forward cycles for yang-year males and yin-year females, backward for the reverse, with the starting age converted from the days to the nearest solar term. You get all eight ten-year pillars with exact year ranges, your current decade highlighted, and the coming annual Liu Nian pillars.
